In 2010, a small group of families in Basking Ridge, New Jersey were made aware of the critical need for effective programs that would allow adults with autism to lead purposeful lives after they aged out of their current school programs. This information led to a grassroots effort that resulted in the creation of Hope Autism Foundation (HAF).
Our goal was to create and support a replicable daily life enhancement program model to encourage adults with autism to use their individual capabilities to contribute to their community and lead purposeful lives. By the end of 2011, a partnership was developed with a respected service provider, Our House, Inc., and in early 2012 the program model, Hope Autism Solutions (HAS) was created and approved by the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities.
The board of HAF committed to fund the lease for the site for five years. In addition to the lease, HAF also provides funding to help furnish and maintain the facility, purchase computers and other technology for the client’s use, fund enrichment programs and support some staff salaries. In short, the private funding that HAF provides has helped to make the HAS program unlike any other in the state.
Our House, Inc. currently operates 5 HAS sites in Somerset, Middlesex and Union Counties respectively, serving over 100 adults with autism.
